EARTH
‘Every year in Australian cities there are more deaths caused by air pollution than car accidents.’ (E2)
‘If you think you’re too small to make a difference, you’ve never been in bed with a mosquito.’ (E5)
You wear a seat belt in the car, but what are you doing to save yourself from the ills inflicted on Mother Nature?
EARTH is sustainability. This is no longer just a “greeny” term, but a phrase relating to the movement following the technological age, which brings you back to the basics of life, Consumerism & Community. It has been evolving gradually with the introduction of recycle bins and the likes, but is now moving rapidly as the Community and economy has shown there is a need for caution regarding your future existence.
If you’re wondering if this is really for you consider what you do with your Waste of food and clothes.
If you could easily give them to someone who only has one change of clothes and hasn’t eaten in three days would you? If putting ALL recycling into one bin instead of the other meant a healthier, happier longer existence would you? If you could buy a more superior product, for the same price from a socially and environmentally responsible seller would you? If you could have fresh fruit and vegetables daily, that tasted better because they were hand picked, healthier because they came from your pot and more sustainable because you’re only taking what you need would you? There is plenty for you to do now to contribute great or small for your own benefit.
The great benefit about sustainability of the EARTH is that it saves you money, improves your health, the environment, animal cruelty and is being socially responsible now for the planet, the economy, the community and for future generations.
EARTH contains five elements for your exploration and activation as follows:
- HABITAT - your natural environment – the home, the garden, the office
- WASTE – items you no longer want or need (general rubbish, food, clothes, books, toys, electrical goods and blinds etc)
- CONSUMERISM - turning a national past-time into a healthier, happier, more sustainable hobby
- ECOLOGY - your responsibility to animals, plants, land, water and the atmosphere
- COMMUNITY - the social responsibility you have to elements of sustainability within society
